The Best Classic Key Lime Pies & Recipes

Get a taste of the best Key lime pies, and be transported to the Florida Keys!
The iconic Key lime pie has a history rooted in the Florida Keys. The classic Key lime pie is named after the small, tart key limes that were once native to the Florida Keys. There were groves of these juicy limes in the Florida Keys back in the early 1900s, but a hurricane wiped them out and many farmers planted regular Persian limes in their place. The famous pie's origin dates back to the 1890s. But the truth of the matter is that there is no documented history. Most likely it was an inventive cook that just used what they had on hand -key limes and sweetened condensed milk!

Traditional key lime pie typically consists of a buttery graham cracker crust, a filling made from key lime juice, sweetened condensed milk, and egg yolks. The filling is usually baked until set. The pie is often topped with whipped cream or meringue. Sweetened condensed milk was a popular ingredient because it didn't require refrigeration. The acidity of the key lime juice helped the pie set without the need for eggs to be cooked.

Key lime pie has become a symbol of Florida cuisine and culture, celebrated for its tangy flavor and creamy texture. So here are some of the most beautiful Key lime pies that I found along with the links to recipes,  as well as links to sites that rated the Key lime pies in the Florida Keys.
